Characterized by their creative programming as well as the lyricism and drive in their music making, the Powers-de la Torre piano duo has performed on stages in North America and Europe. Some of the festivals and concert series on which they have taken part include the Winter Concert Series in Estes Park, CO; Classical Concerts at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, CA; El Arte del piano at Mexico City’s Fine Arts Palace; Passion Piano at the Bibliothèque de Dinan in France; Instituto Cervantes in Vienna; the International Festival of Spanish Keyboard Music in Almería; and the Viernes de Musikeon concert series in Valencia, Spain. The duo was a finalist at the United States International Duo Piano Competition in Colorado Springs and obtained a Silver Award at the first international competition of the Carles & Sofía Foundation of Spain. As a duo, they have been coached by pianists Albert Atenelle, David Korevaar, and Andrew Cooperstock.
Recent highlights include performing live for Seattle’s Classical King’s Northwest Focus Live radio show, consecutive appearances at the annual Encuentro de Pianistas Costa Rica, the commission and premiere of a works by Spanish-Colombian composer Moisès Bertran, with a grant from the IBERMÚSICAS program, and by Seattle-based Uruguayan-American composer Miguel del Águila —whose music they have recently recorded for their upcoming debut album—, the Music from Home concert series at Lakewold Gardens, a return appearance at the Listen Live at Lunch series in Tacoma, a concert at Mexico’s National Museum of Art and a radio interview on Mexico City’s classical music station Opus 94, and an invitation to the Alum Series at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Lark Powers, a California native, and Ricardo de la Torre, a Mexico City native, are in demand as performers, teachers, adjudicators, and presenters, and are frequently invited to judge for competitions and festivals. Jointly and individually, they have presented at numerous local, regional, national, and international conferences. They are on faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and the Community Music Program at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and serve as Visiting Artists for the Washington State Music Teachers Association.
Partners in music as well as in life, they individually hold degrees from the University of the Pacific, Escuela Superior de Música (Mexico City), Conservatoire de Région de Paris “Hector Berlioz,” the Peabody Institute, Indiana University, and the University of Colorado Boulder, where they met during their doctoral studies.

Han comisionado y estrenado obras de compositores vivos como Moisès Bertran (con un apoyo del programa IBERMÚSICAS), Miguel del Águila, Juan Pablo Contreras y Leonardo Coral. Entre sus actuaciones recientes se incluyen las series de conciertos Listen Live at Lunch y Music from Home en la ciudad de Tacoma, Washington.
